A new limited-edition vinyl album by the Choir of St. Paul’s highlighting works of women composers and poets will be released in time for Christmas gifts. This forum from our Director of Music, Susan Jane Matthews, traces her life journey of research into sacred choral music by women composers that led in Fall 2020 to her founding a Great Host team of eight from diverse spots in the USA and England to curate a database of choral works for the church year as a resource to church musicians.
In the forum you may listen to excerpts from the vinyl, including three commissions funded through the Marcia McCowin estate fund that are recorded for the first time by the Choir of St. Paul's. Learn about the lives of the women composers included on the recording from Florence Price and Undine Smith Moore, to contemporary composers Margaret Burk, Melissa Dunphy, and the newly appointed Master of the King's Music, Errollyn Wallen.
