Sharing Our gifts to Make a Difference
As those of old their first fruits brought of vineyard, flock and field
To God the giver of all good, the source of bounteous yield
So we today our first fruits bring, the wealth of this good land,
of farm and market, shop and home, of mind and heart and hand. (Hymn 705)
From the earliest days of our faith, stretching back thousands of years, people have asked “what return can I make for all the good God has done for me.” (Psalm 116). How can we say thank you to the One who gives everything? How can we be participants in the outpouring of God’s love for the healing of the world?
And from the beginning the answer has been to make an offering. Offering is the way that the God’s economy works, not only in the world, but in our hearts. Sharing our gifts is what makes a difference.
We can see this difference when we look at all the ways this community of St. Paul’s works in the world. We see lives supported and transformed. We see the poor of our community served. We see witnesses to the world of compassion and caring.
It is our hope that everyone who has a part in the life of this parish will make an offering, 100% of us. Our goal of a $76,000 increase is a challenging one. With the end of the capital campaign, our operating budget needs to absorb additional costs that were being paid from those funds. And, as always, inflation nudges the budget upward as well.
We invite you this year to make a pledge to St. Paul’s as a part of your offering to God. We invite you to join us in sharing the first fruits of all God has given you so that God’s dream in this world may thrive.
