The Sunday Journey for  Families with Children Infant to 5th Grade

St. Paul’s Sunday Journey, using the curriculum Seasons of the Spirit, offers five age appropriate classes for children nursery age through fifth grade. The mission of St. Paul's Sunday Journey is to lay a foundation for our children's life-long relationship with God, as made known to us through Christ. We offer stepping stones for children to develop and grow that relationship, and for families to support and nurture faith at home and in the community. The four stepping stones are:

                                                             1. Scripture Study - learning the story of God's love
                                                             2. Worship - responding to God's love
                                                             3. Family & Home - living the story of God's love
                                                             4. Outreach - being the story of God's love out in the world.

For more information regarding any of these programs you can contact the Associate Rector for Children’s Ministries, The Rev. Julie Graham at jgraham@stpaulsburlingame.org at

Our Sunday starts with Sunday Journey classes where children
LEARN the story of God’s love for us. We study the scripture and learn the traditions of the Episcopal church – and have lots of fun in fellowship with our peers. St. Paul’s Sunday Journey offers five age-appropriate classes for children nursery age through fifth grade.

At the middle school level, our children join with the youth

(J2A) – a series of two year programs that explore and

                                                        2. Worship: Responding to God's Love

                                                        Picture
During St. Paul’s 10am service, Children’s Worship is held for parishioners ages 3 to 8. We refer to this as Children's Liturgy of the Word. After the opening hymn and during the singing of the Gloria, children follow the Crucifer and the Rev. Julie Graham to their own altar in Classroom C upstairs in the parish hall. Here, children RESPOND to the story of God’s love with age-appropriate movement, voice, music and art – feeding their Spirits in ways that make sense and are comfortable, as well as consistent with our faith tradition. Parents are welcome to either join the children or send them in the care of Rev. Graham and her adult helpers. Children rejoin their families in church in time to celebrate the Holy Eucharist.

                                                        3. Family & Home - Living the story of God's love

                                                        Picture
In addition to Sunday Journey classes before church and Children’s Worship during the service, St. Paul’s offers a number of seasonal events that support faith formation in our children, and deepen family relationships and connections with the parish at large. These include the Advent Festival and the Christmas Pageant in advance of Christmas, a Lenten Family Activity before Lent, the Palm Festival in preparation for Easter, and our end-of-the-year celebration of teachers and learners at Pentecost. Additionally, smaller events as well as the MOMs on a Mission discussion group are scheduled throughout the year for fellowship, support and resource-sharing – to help families LIVE the story of God’s love at home and with each other.

                                                        4. Outreach - Being the story of God's love out in the world

                                                        Picture
St. Paul’s also offers children and families the opportunity to BE the story of God’s love through our ongoing Compassionate Kids program. By participating in community outreach projects, children learn about being Christ-like in the world and to take actions which directly help other people and communities.  Throughout the year, Compassionate Kids offers our children opportunities to put their developing faith into practice.
