Evening Prayer for the first week of Advent
Advent Quiet Time
Sunday - Thursday from 5:30-6:00pm
December 2-23, 2013
in St. Paul’s Chapel
In the midst of all that the holiday season brings, you are invited to find a still space at the end of the day. Short readings from scripture or poetry, prayers for those we love and those in need and some silence will touch your soul as we gather around the light of the advent wreath. This time also offers a great alternative if you can’t make Sunday morning.
Readings for Monday Evening
O The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
As it is written in the prophet Isaiah,
"See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way;
the voice of one crying out in the wilderness:
'Prepare the way of the Lord,
make his paths straight,' "
~ From The Gospel of Mark
An Advent Poem by T.S. Eliot
I said to my soul, be still
And wait without hope,
For hope would be hope for the wrong thing.
And wait without love,
For love would be love for the wrong thing.
There is yet faith,
But the faith and the hope and the love are all in the waiting.
And wait without thought,
For you are not ready for thought.
So the darkness shall be the light
And the stillness, the dancing.
